Speaking Spanish is the ultimate goal of 90% of students who decide to embark on the adventure of studying this wonderful language. At Hispania, Escuela de Español, we understand this perfectly. That is why in our classes, conversation always takes centre stage.

 During a lesson, we focus on a grammatical objective and a lexical objective, seamlessly intertwined with a communicative aim. That means that the grammar topics and vocabulary that our students learn in each class are directly connected to a communicative context in which to put what they have learned into practice.

In addition, to encourage oral practice both inside and outside the classroom, we regularly organize activities aimed at making new friends and speaking Spanish non-stop.

Last February we held a very special class to celebrate Valentine’s Day and practice structures and vocabulary for meeting new people. It was a blast!

We brought together students from three different B2 level groups and designed a conversation-only class: "Getting to Know People through Speaking".

In the first part of the activity, we divided the large group of students into small groups of 4-5 people and they had to talk to each other following a recommended set of questions to get to know each other better.

Next, we once again reorganized the big group into 3 teams for a debate scavenger hunt.  Each group tackled 3 major topics and had to move around the school in search of meeting points for the corresponding debate.

These three debates centred on February’s main theme: love. They eagerly delved into discussions about relationships, drawing interesting conclusions on questions such as whether the most long-lasting couples make more or fewer joint plans.

After this part, the students had a met many new faces, but the game continued. They had been speaking exclusively in Spanish for over an hour almost without realizing it.

In the third part of the activity, the students paired up for a genuine "speed dating" experience to consciously improve their Spanish, using helpful cue cards to enhance their skills.

We wrapped up the session by asking questions to identify the most compatible couples. It was an unforgettable experience where the students spent two hours practicing Spanish in a natural and spontaneous way and, most of all, making friends along the way.
